Foxley Wood, Breckland, Norfolk

Acquisition of 123 ha of ancient woodland and coppice. Woodland is recorded in the Domesday book and is an SSSI and a National Nature Reserve, being the largest ancient woodland in the country. Woodland type is oak, ash, hornbeam and wet alder woodland which is of national importance. It has many unusual ancient woodland features and several species which are extremely scarce in east Anglia including wild service tree (Sorbs torminalis) and Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis). It is widely recognised as having the best stand of wild bluebells in the county.
