Acquisition of chattels as well as capital works, and an endowment for Hopetoun House, built in 1699 for Charles, 1st Earl of Hopetoun and one of the most distinguished Robert Adam houses in Scotland. The £4m grant from NHMF will enable the Trust to preserve intact the contents and the fabric of the house. The contents include works by Thomas Gainsborough, Henry Raeburn, Nathaniel Dance and Annibale Carracci, as well as furniture, tapestries and porcelain specially commissioned for Hopetoun, in particular the original furniture designed by James Cullen in the mid-18th century.
