Mudge Travelling Clock (The Polwarth)

Acquisition of brass and tortoise shell cased travelling clock by Thomas Mudge of London made c 1768. The clock which belonged to Lord Polwarth, was designed to be portable and has a mahogany box for protection: the large white enamel dial shows hours, minutes and seconds. It has a detached lever escapement of Mudge's invention and strikes the hours in passing. It can also be made to repeat the hour and quarter by pulling a cord.
