Bust of Sir James Gibbs by Rysbrack

Acquisition of a marble bust of the architect James Gibbs (1682-1754) by John Michael Rysbrack (1694-1770). It is signed and dated 1726, and is Rysbrack's earliest portrait masterpiece. Gibbs was the architect of St Martin in the Fields and the bust was presented to the church in 1885. The church sold the bust in 1988.
