Crescent, Buxton

Acquisition by the Borough Council of St Ann's Hotel, which comprises two-thirds of Buxton Crescent, erected between 1779 and 1789 to the designs of John Carr of York as part of the Duke of Devonshire's attempts to make Buxton vie with Bath as a spa of national importance. This part of the Crescent was in an advanced state of delapidation. The purchase enabled the Council to embark on immediate repairs.
