Crossley 40 hp Limousine

Acquisition of oldest surviving example of a Manchester made Crossley car. Built in 1909 and registered in 1910. Possibly fitted with a body by Cockshoot of Manchester. Retailed through Whiting Limited of Euston Road. Reputedly sold to Marie Lloyd and then bought, second-hand, in 1912 by Sir Thomas Tacon JP (High Sheriff of Suffolk). Inherited by Maud Tacon when Sir Thomas died in 1922, but little used by her. Auctioned when Maud Tacon died in 1952 and bought by Bert Westwood for £140. Westwood restored the car, repainted it and fitted it with smaller wheels. Stored until sold at auction in 1994.
