Denny of Dumbarton Ship Testing Tank

Acquisition of the world's first privately-owned ship model testing tank. First used in 1883, was three hundred feet long, later increased to three hundred and fifty feet. It was owned by the famour shup-building firm, Denny's of Dumbarton, and hundreds of experiments were carried out in it of hull shape and propeller design. A considerable quantity of experimental equipment and records has been acquired together with the tank and the building that housed it, the intention is to adapt these for museum use.
