Flying Scotsman

Acquisition of what can claim to be the world's most famous steam locomotive. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, it entered service on the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in 1923, and a few years later hauled the first non-stop train from London to Edinburgh. On this line in 1934 the Flying Scotsman became the first steam locomotive to reach an authenticated speed of 100mph. Since the 1960s it had been in private ownership, changing hands several times.
