Gillow Library Table

Acquisition of a mahogany library table, made by Gillows of Lancaster to a design by Thomas Chippendale, commissioned in 1778 by Sir James Ibbetson Bt of Denton Hall, Otley, Yorkshire. Of serpentine form, with original leather-lined top, the canted corners carved with a 'truss' beneath oval paterae, one side with a central through drawer above a recess flanked by two sets of four graduated drawers, those at the top divided into compartments with covers inlaid with the letters of the alphabet. The other side of the library table with the central drawer above the recess flanked by single drawers above cupboards.
