Hatterral Ridge, Brecon Beacons National Park

Acquisition of Hatteral Ridge which forms the southern end of the east ridge of the Black Mountains and extends to some 1,273 hectares, of which 853 fall within the National Park Boundary. The ridge straddles the Welsh border and is perhaps better known as part of the Offa's Dyke trail. It comes within the Black Mountains SSSI and is an area of considerable natural beauty. It was suffering erosion from illegal motorcycling and four-wheel drive vehicles. Ownership will enable the National Park to develop a management strategy for the area.
