Portrait of the Earl of Arundel by Rubens

Drawing, portrait of Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Arundel (1585-1646) by Rubens (1577-1640). Probably drawn during Rubens' diplomatic mission to England in 1629-30. As a result of this meeting, Rubens painted three portraits of the Earl (which can now be found in the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery and the Gardner Museum, Boston). It is thought Rubens took this study back with him to Antwerp to use as a basis for these portraits.
