Portrait of Wadham Pigott by Gainsborough

Acquisition of portrait of Wadham Pigott (1750-1823) by Thomas Gaimsborough. Pigott was the first member of the Pigott family to live permanently at Weston-Super-Mare and to take an interest in the town. He became Lord of the Manor on the death of his elder brother and oversaw the development of Weston from a small fishing and farming village to a town. He was appointed Curate in Charge of the parish of Weston when the Rector moved away and continued in this post until his death. In 1823 he gave £1,000 towards the rebuilding of the parish chirch and he also set up a charity for the poor of the parish.
