Shackleton Expedition Manuscripts

Acquisition of Alexander Hepburne Macklin's (1889-1967) manuscript records relating to two Antartic expeditions of Sir Edward Shackleton (1874-1922). The first is the diary kept by Macklin, the expedition doctor, after the icebound 'Endurance' sank in October 1915, 1,600 km from possible help. The second is Macklin's 2,200-page archive of Shackleton's subsequent expedition in The Quest, including his eye-witness account of Shackleton's death. Antartic expeditions.
