Shapwick Roman Coin Hoard

Acquisition of hoard of 9238 Roman silver denarii found in the parish of Shapwick, Somerset. It is by far the largest hoard of denarii discovered in Britain. The latest coins show the hoard to have been buried in about AD224. Archaeological investigations following the discovery revealed the coins to have been buried below the floor of a room in a previously unknown villa.To conserve, research, communicate and exhibit the hoard for the purposes of study, education and enjoyment.
