Sherborne Missal

Acquisition of early 15th century illuminated Sherborne Missal created for the Benedictine Abbey of St Mary at Sherbourne, Dorset, in the years around 1400, it is probably the greatest English Gothic manuscript in existence. Its 649 vellum pages contain hundreds of vivid miniature paintings by the late medieval master John Siferwas (1360/65-c1430) with 40,000 lines of text by the Benedictine scribe John Whas (Fl. c1400).
