Sladden Wood, Kent

Acquisition of 18-acre coppice woodland in the Alkham Valley SSSI between Folkstone and Dover. Surrounded and accessed via Sladden Farm, this ancient chalk woodland supports a diverse mixture of hornbeam, field maple, hazel and ash, with bluebell, green hellebore, a nationally rare and scarce plant, and yellow archangel flourishing at the site. Natural site regeneration has meant this nature reserve is particularly rich in wildlife, which includes dormice, badgers and nightingales.
